Welcome!

Welcome to the first blog entry from Tap In Systems. The goal of this blog is to communicate the business and technical ideas and philosophies behind our company. First off, a little history on how we got started. Tap In Systems was started by myself and Ben Faul. I first met Ben about 15 years ago when I was working for MAXM Systems as a systems engineer. Ben was a customer and in charge of InfoNet's worldwide network. We became friends while working together to implement a network management system for all of InfoNet's WAN infrastructure. Despite a number of job changes for both of us, we have since collaborated on a number of interesting projects, all centered around the systems management of heterogeneous IT systems.
In August of 2007, we started to work on the base technology for what has become Tap In's Cloud Management Service. As evident in the technical papers that are on this site, this technology is based on the following philosophies.
- Gathering events from all the various sources in your environmnent.
- Normalizing events to a common structure
- Opening interfaces so that events can easily be created and easily "consumed" by applications needing event data.
- Creating these distributed consumer applications for various operational purposes, be they viewers for operators, performance reports for administrator/managers, or automation processes for other system management applications or tools.
We had successfully implemented these concepts in the operations centers of Fortune 500 companies so these are proven methodologies. As we built this technology, we also started to look at cloud computing, both as a method of deploying our technology and as a managed technology opportunity. We quickly realized many of the features we implemented in managing disparate systems can be applied toward the cloud. A year and a half later, here we are. We will continue to work on adding content to this site and this blog, but in the meantime, feel free to contact me with any comments (info@tapinsystems.com).
